Safe Transport: Taxi Checks (Perth & Kinross)
Never get into an unlicensed vehicle. It is uninsured and dangerous. Perform these visual checks before entering.
1. The Plate Check (Rear Bumper)
- Check: Look at the back of the car before opening the door.
- Rule: It must display a Perth & Kinross Council License Plate showing the license number and passenger capacity.
- White Plate: Taxi (Can be flagged down).
- Yellow Plate: Private Hire (Must be pre-booked).
- No Plate = No Ride.
2. The Driver ID (Interior)
- Check: Once the door is open, look for the driver's ID badge (on the dash or hanging from the mirror).
- Rule: It must show their photo and license number. If you can't see it, ask to see it. A real driver will never refuse.
⚠️ RED FLAGS:
- Driver tries to negotiate a cash price before you get in (meter should always be used for street hails in the city).
- Driver claims the "meter is broken."
- Driver approaches you on the street offering a ride.
